HIGHEST OF LOWES!
Brad Lowe has launched his 2008 Genuine Ford Parts Australian Formula Ford Championship in style, taking an emphatic victory in the opening round at Eastern Creek last weekend. The Sydney driver piloted his Synergy Motorsport prepared Spectrum 011c to wins in races one and two, consolidating the round win with a conservative third in race three.
Justin Cotter’s Synergy Motorsport made a stellar debut, with Lowe’s team mate Paul Laskazeski taking second, third and fourth in the races and securing third overall for the round. Ben Morley, driving for Icon Motorsport, completed the Spectrum podium lockout with third in the opening race and a pair of second places earning him second for the round. Confirming the dominance of the trio, they each set a fastest race lap. Laska takes bragging rights, having secured the lap record with his time of 1:36.0203 in race two, eclipsing the time set by Ash Walsh aboard his Spectrum 011b last year.
The CAMS Rising Star squad gave a solid account of themselves, with all three drivers running well in the top ten across the weekend. Daniel Erickson made the most of his opportunities and finished the round in an impressive fifth position. In a brilliant debut performance, Daniel recorded a 1:35.5451 to top the sheets in practice 2; a time not bettered by anyone over the weekend. His running mates Scott Pye and Jake Chapman had the pace to match him, but a couple of unfortunate incidents saw them shuffled back. Jake recovered to finish equal eighth, with Scott in equal tenth place.
Adam Graham led the charge for the Minda Motorsport Britek Scholarship team. AG scored ninth, fourth and fifth on his way to sixth overall. Adam was closely followed by Autobarn Virginia’s Blake Varney. Blake placed in the top seven in each race, to end the weekend seventh in the pointscore. Making his debut for Howard Racing, Scott ‘Giddyup’ Auld scored a pair of top ten finishes, which sees him in 11th place; an impressive performance from the young Queenslander who has only completed a couple of test days prior to this race meeting.
The Spectrum scorecard after round one is impressive to say the least. Spectrum drivers occupy eight of the top ten standings, with five teams represented. The Genuine Ford Parts AFFC now heads to Goulburn’s Wakefield Park circuit on April 4-6. You can be sure that the Spectrum teams will be continuing the hard work that brought them success at Eastern Creek. BRD congratulates all of our teams and drivers for a superb performance in round one.
