Will Power

From Spectrum FFord Racer to Indy 500 Winner

On Sunday, 27 May 2018, Will Power became the first Australian driver to win the coveted Indy 500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

We’re proud to recognise Will as one of our alumni – his first season in the Australian Formula Ford Championship was in the year 2000, driving a Borland Racing Developments Spectrum 07.

Will certainly left a positive impression on our team.

“Total determination, complete focus and sensational car control – these are the things I think of first when I remember Will,” Mike Borland said when he was interviewed for The Sheer Force of Will Power, Will’s book which was released in 2015.

And certainly, Will has had a long and eventful journey since those early days of Formula Ford racing, including stints in Supercars (as an endurance co-driver), Formula Renault 3.5, A1GP, Champ Car and finally, Indycar.

After coming close to the Indycar title with runner-up results in 2010, ’11 and ’12, Power finally won the title in 2014. But he still hadn’t achieved victory in the jewel in the crown, and the race regarded as one of the most prestigious in the world.

This year, that all changed, Power driving a methodical and calculating race to soak up the traditional celebratory milk at the world-famous track.

From all of us here at Borland Racing, congratulations to Will Power – the 2018 Indy 500 Champion.
