DOUBLE VICTORY FOR KMR SPECTRUMS AT BRANDS HATCH
Kevin Mills Racing has secured victory in round 19 of the UK Formula Ford Championship at Brands Hatch last weekend. Adrian Campfield qualified his Spectrum 011b in 3rd place before driving to a superb race win on Sunday morning. His team mate Alex Jones qualified in pole position for the Scholarship Class and went on to take the victory, making it a double podium celebration for Kevin Mills Racing and Spectrum! Australia’s Glen Wood showed just how quickly he is learning the ropes in UK racing, finishing and impressive 7th after qualifying in 12th position.
‘That is mega!’ said team boss Kevin Mills. ‘Everyone has been working really hard and to get the results is just fantastic. The lads have driven very well and we knew it was only a matter of time before we would get this win,’ he added.
Adrian was ecstatic to break through for his maiden victory in the championship. ‘It's unbelievable,’ said a delighted Campfield. ‘We have had such a bad run of luck all year that finally to win is just amazing.’
The Spectrum chassis is manufactured by Borland Racing Developments Pty Ltd in Melbourne, Australia. BRD sales manager Paul Zsidy was equally enthusiastic about the weekend’s news. ‘That is brilliant,’ he said. ‘This is a well deserved result for Kev and his team, the drivers and our agent Mark Bailey for the work they have put in. It seems fitting that the win comes at Brands Hatch, where John Martin won the first UK race for Spectrum on its debut appearance in 2006,’ said Zsidy.
Round 20 provided further cause to celebrate. Once again, Adrian was off 3rd on the grid, with Alex again pole for the Scholarship Class. Glen had qualified 11th for the round. Adrian was part of a race long seven car battle, holding his 3rd place to earn yet another trip to the podium. Alex finished 2nd in his class, after receiving contact to his Spectrum on lap four. Glen had an intense battle in the pack and whilst he finished in 13th position, he was a mere 0.386 seconds behind 9th place!
The UK championship takes a five week break now before the next rounds at Silverstone in August. The KMR team has tested very well at the iconic British circuit and is looking forward to adding to their tally of race wins.
