SPECTRUMS SWEEP SANDOWN
Paul Laskazeski has sent an ominous message to his Genuine Ford Parts Australian Formula Ford Championship rivals; he has his sights set firmly on the 2008 title and is going to be very hard to beat. The young New South Welshman celebrated his birthday in style at Sandown Raceway last weekend, qualifying his Factory Enterprises backed Spectrum 011b on pole and resetting the lap record on his way to victory in race one. Laska won the round, leading home a trio of Spectrum drivers; the locally built chassis securing 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th with four other Spectrums in the top ten!
The Synergy Motorsport driver claimed race two and bettered his own lap record in the process. ‘Laska’ then displayed maturity in race three, taking a more conservative approach in the damp and slippery conditions and finishing 2nd to the Spectrum 011b of CAMS Rising Star Jake Chapman. This was more than enough for Paul to secure the round win and extend his championship lead to 46 points over Icon Motorsport’s Ben Morley and his Orange Cow backed Spectrum 011c. Laska’s Synergy Motorsport team mate Brad Lowe had a difficult weekend; he found himself the innocent party to other drivers’ accidents. That said, he still sits 6th in the points and is only a race win away from 2nd.
Scott Pye turned in his best performance of the season; the CAMS Rising Star driver qualified 3rd in his Scott’s Transport supported Spectrum 011b. Scott backed his qualifying performance up with a pair of strong 2nd places and a 3rd in race three. This netted him 2nd for the round and moves him into 5th outright; 2nd in the rookie of the year points.
Minda Motorsport’s Adam Graham had a stellar weekend aboard his Britek Motorsport Scholarship Spectrum 011b. Qualifying a season best 2nd, Adam scored two 3rd place finishes and a 4th in the final race, to be 3rd for the round. He now sits 3rd in the championship points; just six points behind Ben Morley. Adam’s pace across the weekend suggests a race and round win will not be far away!
Jake Chapman exorcised some of the demons from his unfortunate Wakefield Park round two. After qualifying 6th at Sandown, Jake finished 7th and 4th in the opening races. His superb win in race three secured 4th for the round and moved him inside the top ten in the points. His CAMS Rising Star team mate Daniel Erickson had a mixed weekend. He qualified 4th, which is where he finished race one. He was then adjudged to have jumped the start of race two and served a drive through penalty which dropped him to last place. Daniel drove well from there and worked his way back to 13th position and improved to 8th in the final race; he is now 8th in the championship points and 3rd rookie.
After three rounds of the 2008 Ford Genuine Parts Australian Formula Ford Championship, Spectrum chassis occupy eight of the top ten positions, including the first three (Paul Laskazeski/Synergy Motorsport, Ben Morley/Icon Motorsport and Adam Graham/Minda Motorsport). BRD congratulates the drivers and their teams on what has been the most dominant and successful weekend of racing they have enjoyed.
