Spectrum Borland Sabre

Borland Racing Developments is pleased to confirm that Kevin Mills Racing has chosen to run Spectrum Formula Ford chassis in the UK Championship from this season. Already confirmed in the driver lineup at the Mills operation is Australian driver Glen Wood.

Glen moves to the UK after a sensational rookie season in the Australian championship, which included a pole position and race and round wins. He sees the UKFFC as the next logical step toward his ultimate goal of Formula One. ‘I’m absolutely rapt to be racing Formula Ford in the UK with Kevin Mills Racing. To be able to represent my country in an Australian built car is even better!’ enthused Wood. ‘The Spectrums have been the fastest cars over the last few seasons and I had the opportunity to do some laps around Winton recently. I found it quite easy to adapt to the Spectrum and can’t wait for testing in the UK to commence. I met Kevin whilst I was in the UK late last year and was very impressed with the quality and professionalism of his racing team; I know we have the package to win races in 2008.’

Mills shares the confidence of his new young charge. ‘I wouldn’t be going into this if I didn’t believe the deal was right,’ he explained. ‘We’re in this to win races and championships and I believe the Spectrum chassis provides us with the best opportunity to do exactly that. At a recent test day, we ran the Spectrum back to back against our 2007 car and the Spectrum was quicker out of the box. The development of our existing chassis had really hit a plateau and we were on our own in terms of finding improvements,’ Kevin added. ‘What sealed the deal for me is how enthusiastic Mike Borland and the Spectrum team are about this project. Working with them we will have the full backing of the factory to assist us in developing the car as we go forward. Glen has hands on experience having worked on the cars for a couple of years in Australia, so his talents in and out of the car will be a great benefit to us.’

BRD principal Mike Borland has equal praise for Mills. ‘Kevin’s team has consistently run at the front of the field for a number of seasons. You don’t do that without a lot of hard work and sound engineering,’ said Borland. ‘We are very excited about 2008 and the UK program; there has been a bunch of time and money invested in getting to this point and I must thank our UK agent Mark Bailey for his tireless efforts in supporting and promoting our product. The deal with Kevin Mills Racing is perfect to build on the foundation we have laid over the past few years. I’m really looking forward to getting additional input into the direction to take with the chassis as well. After twenty plus years of developing the car, you start to get a little set in your thinking; another point of view can often be just what you need. Kevin has specific knowledge of the UK tracks and conditions, so his feedback will be invaluable in keeping our chassis at the front.’

Kevin expects to run as many as three cars in the full championship, with a seat or two available for Australian drivers who may wish to contest selected rounds of the UKFFC.
