REYNOLDS’ SABRE WIN REAPS SPECTRUM TEST
The ACT’s Daniel Reynolds recent Australian Formula Vee National Series win at Tasmania’s Baskerville Circuit in his Borland Racing Developments built Sabre chassis has been acknowledged by the factory, who have offered Daniel a test drive of one of their Fiesta powered Spectrum Formula Ford racers. The test will take place in the near future at Winton Motor Raceway near Benalla in rural Victoria.
Mike Borland, designer of the Sabre Formula Vee and Spectrum Formula Ford chassis said, “Daniel has done a fantastic job in both the NSW State Championship and the Formula Vee National Series in 2009. We wanted to recognise his achievements with an opportunity to sample a Formula Ford and look forward to seeing his results aboard the 2010 Sabre 02 Formula Vee 1600 next season.”
“I was very surprised to get a phone call with the offer to drive a Spectrum Formula Ford,” said Daniel. “It’s great that the factory are watching what young drivers do in their cars and will reward you for doing well. I would like to thank Mike and BRD for giving me this chance,” he added.
As the name suggests, the Sabre 02 is the second generation Formula Vee built by BRD and has been developed specifically for the 1600 class. The new car draws on the experience and success of the factory’s Formula Ford program and will utilise the same main panel as the Spectrum, making its proud heritage instantly recognisable. Testing in the prototype has yielded impressive lap times in the hands of experienced and novice drivers, indicating that results for the Sabre will be strong in 2010. Six cars are under construction at BRD’s Braeside factory for customers eager to get on track.
