Reynolds and Sabre Win in West
Daniel Reynolds ensured that his family’s trek from their hometown of Canberra across the continent to Perth, some 4000 kms away, was worth the effort when he convincingly won the CAMS Formula Vee National title last weekend, driving the Vintage Vee Dub Supplies Sabre 02.
Daniel had not seen the Barbagallo circuit prior to opening practice, but was quickly at the top of the timesheets. He qualified in pole position by a margin of almost quarter of a second and cruised to a six second victory in the opening eight lap race.
Another comfortable win and a second place by 0.03 seconds in heats two and three ensured Reynolds would start the final from position one. He quickly established a lead of about four seconds and then maintained that to take the chequered flag and the National title.
“We’re absolutely rapt to take the win,” said Daniel. “The Vintage Vee Dub Sabre 02 was fantastic all weekend and I want to thank my folks for the great preparation and the huge effort to get me over here for the event.”
Not to be outdone by his son’s star driving efforts, Daniel’s dad (and chief mechanic) Chris took home the silverware for Best Presented car. Anyone who has had the good fortune to see the Vintage Vee Dub Supplies Sabre 02 up close will attest to the fact that it is presented more like a show car than a racecar! Chris explains, “The thing is that the Sabre is so consistent that we don’t have to change anything on it during a race meeting. So once I put fuel in it and set tyre pressures, all there is to do from one race to the other is clean and polish!”
Attention to detail is what wins races and championships. The Reynolds family is a great example to anyone in motor racing. They prepare their cars meticulously and Daniel focuses on driving consistently and mistake free. Borland Racing Developments and Sabre Formula Vee Racing Cars congratulate Daniel and his family on a well deserved victory!
